Elissa D. Giffords, DSW, LCSW

Elissa D. Giffords, DSW, LCSW, is a respected educator, administrator, and leader in social work and human services with over 30 years of experience. She holds a doctorate in Social Welfare from Adelphi University and has held key roles at Long Island University, including Full Professor and MSW Program Director. She now teaches at SUNY Farmingdale State College. Dr. Giffords is known for her commitment to community engagement and social justice, leading program development, student and professional organizations, and other initiatives that foster collaboration between academia and local communities.

 

Her expertise covers social and health policy, curriculum development, accreditation, and direct support for at-risk youth and underserved populations. She has partnered with public and private organizations, leading service initiatives and community coalitions, and has direct practice experience in crisis intervention and case management. Dr. Giffords is widely published and recognized nationally and internationally for her work on topics like poverty, chronic illness, social policy, and community partnerships.

 

Recipient of awards such as Social Worker of the Year (NASW, NYS), the David Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching (LIU), and New York Academy Fellow, Dr. Giffords is celebrated for her dedication to advancing knowledge, mentoring future leaders, and improving access to health and human services.
